Understanding the challenges we face with school safety in the United States is vital for leaders. Only with awareness of the issues we face will we develop meaningful solutions to keep our children safe in school. The NASCPC tracks safety incidents across the country for just this reason.

5/17/24 - Argument at kindergarten promotion ceremony leads to stabbing, school lockdown - LAS VEGAS (KTNV) — Students at a Las Vegas elementary school were under lockdown on Friday after a fight on campus.
5/10/24 - Two Schools Resume Normal Operations after Fight with 50 Minors Prompts Lockdowns - A large fight involving about 50 minors at Golden Valley Park prompted two school lockdowns on Friday.
3/26/24 - Gun found on southwest Las Vegas Valley middle school campus - LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) - The Clark County School District reported that a gun was found on a middle school campus on Tuesday.
12/31/23 - Superintendent looks ahead to violence prevention in schools - Elko County School District Superintendent Clayton Anderson said he’s “really excited” about a school violence-prevention program that will be ready in 2024.
12/7/23 - At least 3 killed on UNLV campus, suspect dead - A gunman opened fire on the campus of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, on Wednesday, killing three people and wounding a fourth before being shot dead by police.
11/22/23 - Las Vegas high school grapples with how a feud escalated into a fatal beating - LAS VEGAS -- Students at a Las Vegas high school had gone home for the day when an urgent message was broadcast from the intercom: A defibrillator was needed near one of the classrooms.
11/14/23 - 8 teens arrested in fatal beating of Las Vegas high school student - The suspects, arrested Tuesday morning, are ages 13 to 17, Las Vegas police said.
11/13/23 - Las Vegas Teen Dies After School Attack - a teenager has died after he was attacked by a 15-strong mob of other students outside his Las Vegas school.
11/3/23 - Attack by 15 teens that left Las Vegas student hospitalized condemned - LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A teenager remains hospitalized after suffering a brutal beatdown at the hands of more than a dozen teens near Rancho High School.
7/7/23 - CCSDPD seize 49 guns, 10 loaded, during 2022-2023 school year - LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — With Clark County students expected to be back in the classroom next month, data shows the number of guns loaded with ammunition that police seized this past school year increased from the previous year.

3/5/23 - With 27 guns seized on its campuses so far this year, CCSD is on pace for 5-year high - Clark County School District data show that guns on campus aren’t unusual. Over the past five years, the fewest number of guns that officers have recovered from district property was 18 — in the 2019-20 school year, which was interrupted by the pandemic.

1/17/23 - Minor arrested after bringing gun onto campus in Yerington- YERINGTON, Nev. (KOLO) - A minor was arrested after police said they brought a gun onto the campus of Yerington High School.
1/16/23 - Washoe County School District to Employ Gun-Detecting Dog - RENO, Nev. (AP) — Washoe County School District students will start seeing new additions to security on campuses this spring — including a gun-detecting dog.
12/29/22 - Department Of Justice Awards Over $46 Million In Grants To Support Public Safety Efforts In Nevada - LAS VEGAS – The Department of Justice has awarded $46,438,846 in grants to various Nevada entities to support victims’ services and public safety efforts, announced United States Attorney Jason M. Frierson.
10/7/22 - Police find gun at local elementary school - LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County School District police found a gun was found at a Las Vegas elementary school Friday.
